We're updating our Canvas Connection in Athena

Athena started as a tool for students, built and shaped by student feedback from day one. Now, as we open our doors to partnerships with schools, we want to build those relationships with the same intentional care we continue to build with our students, starting with giving institutions a voice in how Athena connects to Canvas. As a result, the Canvas connection is changing.

Here's what it means for you and Athena.

What's changing.

Starting Friday, August 14, institutions choose whether to opt-in to the Canvas connection.

What that means for students.

If you've had Canvas connected, that connection will pause until your school opts in. Everything else stays the same. Athena can still provide homework help, practice quizzes, flashcards, and guidance through tricky concepts.

So how does Canvas access work now?

It comes down to your school. There are two ways they can turn it on:

• They enable it. Your school flips the switch, and you can connect your own Canvas account the same secure way as before. You'd still pay for Athena like any individual subscriber.
• They sponsor it. Some schools sponsor Athena for their students. That always includes enabling Canvas, plus it makes Athena free for you to use in your studies. We're actively building pilot options with schools now, and more will roll out in the coming months.

If your school hasn't done either yet, you won't see the option to connect Canvas. You can still use Athena for everything else.
